This autumn, the Federal Council will award new casino concessions for the years 2025 to 2045. 28 concession applications clear the first hurdle.
The 21 currently valid casino concessions expire at the end of 2024. In autumn 2023, the concessions for the years 2025 to 2045 will therefore be awarded anew. The Federal Council decided to grant a maximum of 23 concessions for the operation of casinos for this period.
The tender procedure for the award was conducted from June to October 2022. The Federal Gaming Board (FGB) received 29 applications. Of these, 28 fulfilled the requirements and will now be examined by the Federal Council. Only the application for the zone of Schaffhausen does not meet the requirements, as it was submitted incompletely. However, incomplete applications cannot be considered for the award of a concession. The Federal Council therefore did not consider this application – this decision is final and cannot be appealed. This means that no casino concession can be granted for the zone of Schaffhausen in autumn 2023. Nevertheless, the Federal Council instructed the FGB to examine the further procedure regarding the Schaffhausen concession.
